Psst Bay Area…It’s Almost 420! (Kind Of)
Oh boy. Prop 64 really did a number on 420 this year, hasn’t it? According to our states new measure, it is now very much illegal for you to smoke cannabis outside. Do so and you’ll get hit with a $500 ticket–no bueno. You also can’t sell, distribute, vend or even give away weed, as that is now technically illegal as well. Additionally, you have to be 21 or over to even participate in a 420 fest this year, as it’s now illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to buy or consume cannabis. But like most things in the Bay Area, illegal doesn’t always equate to this is not going to happen.
So, with that being said, what the hell is up with 420 this year? Is it even going to happen?
The short answer is yes. While huge events like the 420 celebration on Hippie Hill are now completely outlawed, the sheer number of folks who converge on the space will ultimately decide whether or not the fest proceeds. Regardless, expect this particular 420 celebration to be a bit more restrained. As for other 420 celebrations, it will really depend on the scope of enforcement regarding these new laws that will determine if they happen or not.
One silver lining is that we’ve historically been a state that bucks traditions and defies the status quo. If there is one group that can beat back the phony legalization Prop 64 has given us, it’s the potheads of the Bay Area.
I’ve done a little digging and want to pass along some 420 celebrations that will be happening in the Bay Area this year. If you know of any send them our way. Our 420’s will have to become a lot more “grassroots” moving forward!
The First Annual Cannabis Festival San Francisco
No longer the 420 Fest, SF has gone and “legitimatized” its annual 420 celebration into something a bit more cohesive. That’s the expectation anyways. A quick look at their Facebook page and you will immediately notice not much is being said about the event, unlike previous years. Is the 420 Fest happening this year in Golden Gate Park? Of course it is. Click here or here here for more information.

Or, as Allison P. Davis put it in New York Magazine: Hey, Want to Come to My Pot Tupperware Party?
Like the Tupperware® parties of the 1950’s, this event is designed to teach you about new products and allow you to ask questions in a friendly, supportive, women-only space.
Unlike the Tupperware® parties of the 1950’s, this event is also designed to allow you to try a range of cannabis products with a group of awesome women in a beautiful space while learning more about the current state of the medical marijuana industry.
This week, we’ll be sampling edibles and CBD tinctures. And as always our experienced vendors will be there to provide much-needed guidance on medical uses of cannabis and answer all your pressing questions.
All that, AND wine and snacks will be provided! Each participant will receive a gift bag with exciting samples and useful product information from our sponsoring vendors.
Approved sponsored products only. We LOVE featuring new products — especially products from women! Because we take your medical cannabis needs seriously, we only feature products that have been verified and tested at high-quality labs.
